Moore, Dance, Spino, Nocella, Tefft, Nicewicz
and Banach are Whip City Speedway Champions
By Mark McKeon
WESTFIELD, MA  Whip City Speedway rang down the curtain on the 2008 racing season on Saturday with an exciting program, which determined the points championships in many divisions.
Going into the final night’s program, 1200cc Mini Sprint ace Jon Moore had enough of a lead that he didn’t need to worry about points and that’s exactly how he drove.  Rim riding his way around the speedway, he looked like a man who absolutely positively had to get to his broker’s office before the Dow dropped another 1,000 points.  It was Moore’s fourth win of the season.
In the tight points battle for the 750cc Mini Sprint championship. Peter Dance’s sixth place finish in the feature gave him the championship with 1236 points over John Virgilio (1220) and Joe Platt (1206).  Rob Walendy reprised his recent performance in the East Coast Mini Sprint Association Fall Final by scoring a convincing victory.
Robby Spino won both the battle and the war, passing Jack Fogarty in the fourth turn of the final lap to win the 750 Sportsman feature and solidify his points championship. It was the third win of the season for the rookie Mini Sprinter.  It was all about first and second place in the 600cc Mini Sprints.  Anthony Nocella won the championship with 1248 points and Rich Crooker claimed runner-up honors with 1238. In the finish of the final feature, the positions were flip-flopped.
A fourth place finish for Kevin Tefft was more than enough to give him the championship in the 270 Mini Sprints.  Brian Boudreau ended the season with a two-fer, coming with a 12th place starting spot to claim his second consecutive victory.
Ryan Nicewicz and Brian Peterson have been the yin and yang of the Mod Lites all season, so it was fitting that they ended the season with each having 1338 points to his credit.  The tie breaker was the number of feature wins, of which Nicewicz had 6 to Peterson’s 5.  Semi regular competitor Tim Johnson played the role of the spoiler from Peterson’s perspective, winning the feature while Peterson finished second.
Ed Banach took the 4 Cyl Street Stock championship with a win over Jamie Beaudry, who also finished second in the points standings.
The management of Whip City Speedway wishes to thank the drivers, car owners, crew  and fans for their support in 2008 and looks forward to seeing everyone again when the Speedway reopens in the Spring of 2009.
