- Open cockpit all star Jim Maguire will come out of retirement to race a
Quad 4 Midget at Whip City Speedway this Saturday, September 4.
Maguire won numerous USAC
races, was the 1963 URC Sprint Car Champ and has 14 ARDC Midget wins to his
credit. Among the drivers Maguire raced against – and
defeated – were A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones, Roger McCluskey, Don Branson and Earl
Halaquist.
Maguire was scheduled to compete in the 1964
Indianapolis
500, but was involved in a terrible accident during a USAC Sprint Car race at
New Bremen, OH, which resulted in the amputation of his right arm at
shoulder. The car he was supposed to
drive went instead to a young Italian immigrant living inNazareth,PA by the name of Mario Andretti. After an intensive period of physical therapy,
Maguire learned to race with his one remaining arm, and racked up victories in
the ARDC Midgets and the ATQMRA TQ Midgets.When Maguire visitsWhip City this week, he’ll be piloting the Skip
Matczak owned Quad 4 Midget usually wheeled by Indy 500 rookie of the Year Denny
Zimmerman.

Igo is Fast and Fortunate At Whip City Speedway

WESTFIELD, MA – With two wins in only six previous starts, it’s a given that Brandon Igo is a very talented driver, but he also needed a double shot of luck to pick up his third 600cc win at the Whip. His first good fortune came at the expense of Chris Lennox, who was looking for his first win of the season. Igo passed Lennox on lap seven, but the pass was negated by a yellow flag. Whether Igo could have raced by Lennox again at the end will be fuel for the hot...........click here to continue
